Lodged city tree collapses onto Peltolammi house after residents' warnings went unanswered

A city-owned tree fell onto a house in Peltolammi on Friday after remaining lodged against another tree following last week’s storm. The tree’s top struck the house eaves. The collapse followed the storm, which prompted fewer than 100 damage reports across Tampere according to the city's damage figures. Local paper Aamulehti reported the incident.
The lodged tree had been reported to the city twice and to the emergency centre, but no rescue department was dispatched before it came down. Piritta Karru, a tree expert at Tampere Infra, told Aamulehti the tree sat in a very difficult position and required specialized equipment that crews could not bring until the end of the week, and the tree collapsed before that gear arrived. The stump and debris were cleared on Monday. Guidance on 112.fi says responsibility for a fallen tree normally lies with the city, the landowner or a private contractor, while emergency services intervene when a tree creates immediate dangers such as blocking roads, busy routes or damaging power lines.
