Low Sun May Hide Final Minutes of Finland's Wednesday Partial Solar Eclipse
A partial solar eclipse on Wednesday will begin with the Sun low in the sky, and in southern areas the Sun may set before the event finishes, potentially hiding up to about 20 minutes of the final phase.

In areas south of a line running from Kaskinen to Kuusamo the Sun may set before the event finishes, potentially hiding up to about 20 minutes of the final phase, Ursa, the astronomy association, warns. The moment of maximum eclipse will occur above the horizon nationwide, making the phenomenon similar in depth from north to south.
Viewing will be trickier than usual because the Sun sits close to the west-northwest horizon; observers need an unobstructed view in that direction, and cloud cover can easily spoil the show. Protect your eyes with CE-certified eclipse glasses or welding glass number 14, Ursa advises. Never use exposed film, smoked lenses or ordinary sunglasses.
The last partial eclipse visible in Finland occurred on 29 March 2025, and the next partial will be visible in southern Finland on 2 August 2027. Total eclipses are rare. Finland's last total was in July 1990, and the next is not expected until October 2126.
