Lukeva Tampere will stage a dedicated school day at the Tampere Book Festival in Tampere Hall on 28–29 November, inviting whole classes from early childhood to upper secondary to take part.

The City of Tampere says Lukeva Tampere is staging a dedicated school day at the Tampere Book Festival in Tampere Hall on 28–29 November, inviting whole classes from early childhood to upper secondary to take part. The school day builds on the nationwide Reading Day held in April the national Reading Day in April, which promoted literacy activities across Finland.

The Lukeva Tampere project began in autumn 2025 and aims to bring reading and literacy work closer to pupils through author visits, workshops and guided events. "Promoting literacy is not just the school's task but a responsibility for the whole community," says Lukeva Tampere reading coordinator Katja Saxholm. She will host the school day and highlights how meeting an author often leads pupils to borrow those books.

Tuija Mäki-Laurila, project manager for the Tampere Book Festival, said past festivals included programmes aimed at schools but this is the first time organisers can invite entire classes as a dedicated school day. Schools will receive registration instructions in September; places are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. Spaces are limited.

The initiative ties into a citywide reading challenge, Lukumatka Tampereelle, which anyone can complete alone or together. To enter the Instagram prize draw, tag @lukevatampere and use #lukumatkatampereelle. The reading challenge deadline is 22 October 2026.
