Lviv’s UNBROKEN hospital in Tampere to scout rehabilitation and mental-health solutions

A delegation from the UNBROKEN hospital and rehabilitation centre in Lviv is in Tampere for a three-day programme to evaluate regional rehabilitation, accessibility and mental-health solutions that could be deployed in Ukraine.

During the visit, delegates will tour Tampere University Hospital and Tampere University of Applied Sciences, review accessibility adaptations in public buildings and visit the Finnish Deafblind Association’s Activity Centre in Hervanta. The aim is to match concrete needs in Ukraine with technologies and services developed by Tampere Region companies.

About 15 local companies are presenting products or services, with a clear emphasis on physical rehabilitation and the growing need for mental health care in Ukraine. "This cooperation with UNBROKEN offers us a unique opportunity to showcase the expertise of our region and the solutions developed by our companies," said Timo Hänninen, who is responsible for the health sector at Business Tampere.

The visit builds on steps taken in September when Business Tampere opened an office in Lviv to connect Tampere firms with Ukraine's rebuilding market. Tampere companies have previously demonstrated practical solutions in Ukraine, including thermal-imaging prosthetic fitting trials carried out in Lviv to speed fittings for Ukrainian amputees.

The programme also aims to help companies expand beyond Ukraine. Business Tampere will host Internationalisation Mornings on 7 October in Pirkkala and 8 October in Nokia, where companies can learn about export opportunities and hear market insights from its Ukraine specialist, Minna Tihinen.
