Mental Evaluation Ordered After 70-Year-Old Pushed in Front of Tampere Tram
A court has ordered a mental evaluation for a woman accused of pushing a 70-year-old man in front of a tram in central Tampere; prosecutors are seeking at least four years for attempted murder.
Pirkanmaa district court has ordered a mental evaluation for a woman accused of pushing a 70-year-old man in front of a tram at a Tampere city centre stop in early June, according to YLE.
Prosecutors are seeking at least four years' unconditional imprisonment for attempted murder. The trial began on Monday. The court will deliver a verdict only after the mental evaluation is complete.
Prosecutors submitted surveillance camera footage as evidence. During the preliminary investigation, the defendant told investigators she pushed the man from behind and understood he could die.
Police say the pair knew each other. She was arrested quickly and remains in custody. The charge sheet says the tram did not hit him because the driver made an emergency stop; the victim suffered a head wound and a bruised leg.
