Night works begin on Hatanpään valtatie to install tram wires and tracks; single-lane traffic and noise expected
Night-time work to install tram overhead wires and tracks will take place on Hatanpään valtatie and nearby streets from the night of July 19 to July 24, with single-lane traffic and residents warned of noise and warning lights.
Night-time installation of overhead contact wires and tram tracks will take place on Hatanpään valtatie and nearby streets from the night of Sunday, July 19 to July 24. The Pirkkala–Linnainmaa alliance is carrying out the work. It follows Tampereen Raitiotie's July 13 announcement that overhead contact lines would be installed along Hatanpään valtatie and continues the phased expansion of tram-track construction along the street that began in April earlier this year.
Crews will install overhead wires between the bus station and Tampereen valtatie from the night of July 19 to 24, and lay tram tracks between Tampereen valtatie and Jokikatu from July 19 to 21. Work will run roughly from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. each night, with traffic directed past the work zone on a single lane. At Hatanpäänkatu 1, the contractor will pour the track slab starting at 5 a.m. on Thursday, July 23.
Tamperelainen adds that the changes will also be visible to passengers at Sorin Square, where Tram 3 will use alternating bays from Monday, July 20 during the overhead line installation work. Tamperelainen says the same bay will be used for both directions during the work, and that the arrangement affects connections to Hervanta and continues through March–April 2027.
For passengers, Tamperelainen provides the following guidance: on weekdays between 07:00 and 21:00, trams alternate between Stops A and B, with Stop B typically used at quieter times. Tamperelainen notes that the normal turnaround track will not be used, so travellers should check the Nysse trip planner and the electronic displays at the stop. If passengers end up at the wrong bay, they should use the marked pedestrian crossings at either end of the platform.
Other night works include asphalt resurfacing at the Naistenmatkantie–Lestipolku junction on July 22 and 23, from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.; road marking on Lahdenperänkatu and Kenkätie on July 22 and 23, from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.; and traffic arrangements on Lahdenperänkatu between Hatanpään valtatie and Kolmionkatu on July 23 and 24, from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. Neighbouring areas can expect noise and active warning lights on work machines during the night operations.
