Nokia municipality outlines €70m 2027–29 plan for new school, swimming hall and daycare
Nokia's 2027–2029 budget includes about €70 million for a new Nokianvirran school, an Etelä‑Nokia daycare and a proposed swimming hall, while officials forecast modest population growth and a budget deficit.
The city has published its budget and financial plan for 2027–2029 and placed them on public display, Tamperelainen says. The documents include roughly €70 million in investments for a new Nokianvirran school, an Etelä‑Nokia daycare and a proposed swimming hall.
City officials expect population growth of about one percent a year, reaching more than 40,000 residents by the end of the 2035 strategy period. The population stood at 36,627 at the end of September 2026.
A deficit is forecast and the city is preparing a financial balance programme through 2030. To help fund projects, the city plans to rely on plot sales and land use agreement payments. Its equity ratio is forecast to fall to about 43 percent in 2027.
Staffing will rise mainly in education as Harjuniitty school and the Laivurinkatu early childhood unit are expanded. Other items in the plan include procurement of the PIKI library system, opening a Siuro branch library and upgrades to sports facilities and street greenery. The full budget and plan are available on the city’s website.
