Tampere housing committee backs €113.6 million 2027 building plan for schools and daycares

The draft 2027 budget allocates roughly €113.6 million in net investments, with the bulk aimed at building projects such as schools and daycares across Tampere, the City of Tampere said at the committee's most recent meeting.

Other city committees have approved related proposals this month, including the Committee for Vitality and Competence, which backed a 2027 proposal prioritising youth education and jobs earlier committee approval.

Deputy Mayor and committee chair Jaakko Mustakallio said the city must balance tight finances with necessary investments to support population growth and everyday services. The draft emphasises diversifying the production of new residential units, promoting small-scale housing and reducing homelessness, while proposing an operating surplus of €189.1 million and other budget adjustment measures.

The committee recommended approving the final accounts for the Pyynikintie 2 refurbishment, completed at the end of 2023, which cost €24.33 million, about 1.5% over the estimate. Members handled plot allocations and leases, setting aside a residential plot in Lahdesjärvi and proposing supported housing in Taatala with Tampere Kotilinnasäätiö sr. They discussed the Käräjätörmä community village and renewed several commercial leases.

The panel rejected three appeals against terminations of night-time trading licences. Future pitches will be awarded through an open application process. The draft will feed into the mayor’s budget, and the City Council will decide the final 2027 budget in November.
