Parents' Appeal Denied Over Metsäniitty Daycare Move to Sairaalankatu 6
The education committee rejected parents' complaint against moving Metsäniitty daycare to temporary premises at Sairaalankatu 6, saying the chosen site meets the city's temporary‑premises criteria and no suitable alternatives were available.
The education committee on Tuesday rejected a complaint over the temporary relocation of Metsäniitty daycare to premises at Sairaalankatu 6, Tamperelainen reported. Parents who filed the appeal asked that the Sairaalankatu 6 site not be approved or that the city arrange alternative transport or travel ticket support for affected families.
The committee found the chosen premises comply with the city's temporary‑premises principles and offer good connections from several districts, and said no suitable alternative sites were available. City experts reviewed all options, emphasising cost control and the use of chained temporary premises.
Tampere does not provide transport or reimburse travel costs for early childhood education places, even during relocations. There is also no legal definition of an acceptable travel distance.
Children are expected to return to the refurbished Metsäniitty facilities after about 11 months. The decision follows the committee's earlier daycare rulings and sits alongside broader service network reforms for early education proposed in the city's 2026–2040 plan.
