Tampere advances 100-place daycare and wooden school restorations in Järvensivu
Plans to return daycare and early primary education to Järvensivu have reached the needs‑assessment phase, proposing a 100‑place daycare, space for about 25 pre‑primary children and roughly 50 pupils in grades 1–2.
Plans to bring daycare and the first years of school back to Järvensivu have moved into the needs-assessment phase, Tamperelainen reports.
The assessment proposes a daycare for 100 children, pre-primary space for about 25 and room for roughly 50 pupils in grades 1–2. Early education would be housed in a larger renovated wooden school, while a smaller building would contain shared daycare and staff facilities. If the housing and property board approves the assessment at its Thursday meeting, the project will move on to detailed planning. A project plan decision is targeted for May 2027. Construction could begin in October 2028, and the facilities would open in August 2030. The cost estimate for the project is about €12.2 million.
Järvensivu families have long awaited the school's return, Deputy Mayor for Educational Services Anne-Mari Jussila (National Coalition Party) said. The aim is for children to attend daycare, pre-primary and early primary close to home while the wooden school buildings are restored for community use. Until the new building is ready, pupils will continue at Sammon koulutalo and pre-primary at Sairaalankatu, and the local daycare remains in rented premises. A zoning amendment to protect the schools' cultural-historical values is advancing in parallel, with approval sought by the end of 2026.
