Cottage sales in Pirkanmaa are set to exceed 300 this year, with 270 transactions recorded between January and August as buyers seek well-equipped second homes within an hour of Tampere.
Cottage sales in Pirkanmaa are on track to top 300 this year. There were 270 transactions between January and August, up from 257 in the same period last year and compared with almost 400 sales for the whole of last year, the Central Federation of Real Estate Agencies' cottage sales review shows.
The market is busiest in summer and into October. Buyers are favouring well-equipped second homes within an hour of Tampere, with running water, electricity and sewerage, Samuel Riippa, CEO of Muutos Lkv, says.
Average asking prices sit around €125,000. Most purchases are for personal use, although there is some rental demand.
Loan applications remain steady, but requested amounts have fallen by about 20% as buyers weigh interest costs and overall affordability, says Heini Piitulainen, CEO of Aito Säästöpankki. Banks are scrutinising cottages closely because collateral value depends on location, condition and shoreline access.
Earlier coverage showed lakeside cottage sales had already jumped in 2026 even as the national median price fell, underlining a wider warming trend in Finland's summer cottage market reported in June.
