Police handle about 500 incidents and 30 detentions during Tampere festival weekend
Police recorded about 500 incidents across Pirkanmaa and detained 30 people at Tampere's main police station during the Blockfest and Festivaali weekend.
Festival crowds filled police holding cells, and the Central Finland Police handled about 500 tasks across Pirkanmaa during the Blockfest and Festivaali weekend in Tampere, Aamulehti reports. Between 7 a.m. Saturday and 7 a.m. Sunday, officers recorded roughly 500 incidents and took 30 people to holding cells at Tampere's main police station. "It was not exactly calm, but nothing serious has come to the police's attention," chief superintendent Ari Aro said. Most detentions were for disorderly conduct or intoxication, leaving people unable to care for themselves. If local cells fill up, officers can transfer people to Hämeenlinna or place calm, intoxicated people together. A detention does not cost the person unless fines are later imposed for related offenses, such as resisting police. Earlier coverage noted the two festivals were sold out and took place within two kilometres of each other the sold-out festivals.
