Residents Join Lielahti–Ylöjärvi Tram Route Walkthroughs

Tamperelainen reports that Tampere and Ylöjärvi, together with Tampereen Raitiotie Oy, will host open guided walking tours to preview route plans for the Lielahti–Ylöjärvi tram line, with dates in early and mid-April. The guided walks let participants discuss stop and connection options on site with experts, and the feedback will be used to further develop the plans according to Tamperelainen.

According to Tamperelainen, the Soppeenmäki walk takes place on 1 April, starting at 17:00 beside Soppeenmäen yhtenäiskoulu school, at Koulupuisto 2. Participants will follow the planned tram route toward Tampere via Hartuntie, Soppeentie and Mikkolantie, stopping at the junction of Sauriontie to discuss the intermediate area. The walk will focus on how tram construction may change access routes to the school and the sports hall, as well as three proposed placement options for the Soppeenmäki tram stop.

Tamperelainen adds that at Soppeenmäki, the transfer stop would place the tram in Mikkolantie’s middle, along the sides of Mikkolantie, or north of Mikkolantie. Each option will be assessed with regard to tram and bus stop locations, car traffic, travel experience for public transport users, and impacts on pedestrians, cyclists, and nearby properties. The route is described as mostly along walkways and is accessible, with an estimated length of about 800 metres one way and a duration of about 1.5 hours.

The second guided walk is held on 16 April in Teivo and Lamminpää. Tamperelainen says it starts at 17:00 at the southern entrance of Teivo Racecourse (Velodromintie 2), first examining plans for access routes to the Teivo tram stop toward Ylöjärvi, including walking and cycling connections from Ravitien laid edges to an underpass at Mikkolantie. Participants then return to look at walking and cycling links toward the Lamminpää and Nauhatehdas area, including a planned connection beside the trunk road and tram line, and the location of a tram bridge crossing the trunk road. This walk is also mostly along walkways, accessible, about 1.5 kilometres one way, and expected to last about 1.5 hours.

Finally, Tamperelainen notes that draft plans will be presented to the public in early autumn events, with comments possible via a map survey. The infrastructure plans are under project planning now, with the project plan set to be completed in April 2027; after that, the Tampere and Ylöjärvi city councils can decide whether to move on to detailed implementation planning and, based on that, whether to start construction according to Tamperelainen.
