Roope Itälinna, named Young Artist of the Year 2026, opens a solo exhibition at Kutomosalit in the Finlayson area on 31 October 2026, with the show running through 10 January 2027. The exhibition was first announced in September when the city gave advance details of the show at Kutomosalit.

Itälinna's paintings explore the complexities of human experience, from loneliness and longing to escapism and hedonism. They move between quiet, home-like interiors and adrenaline-charged nightclub scenes. Working in a photorealist tradition, he renders skin, hair and clothing with meticulous detail while often leaving environments broadly sketched. He often depicts figures from the back or with faces obscured, creating anonymity and inviting the viewer into the work's emotional space.

The exhibition is staged in the old factory halls while Tampere Art Museum is closed for renovation and new construction, a setting that creates a striking dialogue with the artist's themes.

Tampere Art Museum's annual Young Artist exhibition spotlights visual artists under 35 who have attracted international attention and seeks to preserve promising contemporary Finnish work for future audiences. Itälinna is the 42nd recipient of the award, and this show brings his staged, photograph-based subjects and reflections on rave culture to the historic Finlayson quarter.
