Saarioinen marks 10th liver casserole day with limited salty licorice flavour

Saarioinen will sell a limited-time salty licorice‑flavoured liver casserole made at its Sahalahti factory in Kangasala, on sale from 29 September to 10 October, Tamperelainen reports.

The release marks the tenth anniversary of Saarioinen’s liver casserole day and follows a long internal development process. Marketing director Noora Kaijanen says the company repeatedly asked Finns whether raisins belong in liver casserole and even held a vote; now the debate is being pushed in a new direction with salty licorice. Saarioinen kept the launch secret, baking several test batches at Sahalahti to ensure the licorice's sharpness does not overpower the dish's traditional flavour. Kaijanen says the product still contains raisins and is meant to provoke discussion, spark curiosity and encourage people to try it.

The move follows other Tampere-area product releases, including Tapola's Ilves‑branded grill sausage earlier this year and Kaffa Roastery's cherry energy drink this summer.
