Särkänniemi's Karmiva Carnival Celebrates 10th Year with Darker 'Phobia Lab' Sequel

Särkänniemi's Karmiva carnival in Tampere marks its 10th anniversary and opens 2–4 October with a special opening-weekend offer that lets two people enter on a single ticket, according to Aamulehti. The park forecasts a profit for the year, despite a reported €1 million loss last year reported earlier. The opening also follows recent investments, including the Konect roller coaster project which was due to open in May.

This year's lineup includes a sequel to last year’s Phobia Lab, staged in the Tornado roller coaster loading area where experiments into fear have spiraled out of control and fear itself takes centre stage. Attraction director Veera Herranen says the new instalment leans on sound, lighting, costumes and performance to make the experience "even more intense, darker and more oppressive."

Zombie Zone and Unhola have been revamped: Zombie Zone gains a multi-dimensional performance stage, while Unhola becomes a routed walk populated by lurking characters. Daytime programming is aimed at families, with troll characters Källi, Kolttonen and Kepponen leading parades, dance and light and fire shows.

All rides will operate if weather permits. The festival runs 2–4 October and 8–17 October and closes with a pyroshow by Suomen Ilotulitus on 17 October.
