Renovation costs for the Tampere Art Museum have risen by €976,000 to €37.26 million. The housing and property committee will review requests for extra funding before the city board decides.
Budget planners must find extra funding after updated project planning showed a €976,000 increase in the Tampere Art Museum renovation, bringing the total to €37,260,000, YLE reports.
City officials say the rise is largely down to clarified technical solutions after the initial planning stage. Changes to cooling and ventilation systems and higher specifications for the glass façade pushed costs up. They will also omit a water-based sprinkler system to avoid risking damage to artworks.
The project will refurbish the existing buildings, add two new ones and build an underground connecting section near Pyynikintori. Construction starts in January. The site should be ready by December 2029, with public use planned for spring 2030. During the work, the museum's activities have been distributed across the city.
The housing and property committee will review the implementation plan and contract on Thursday. After that the matter moves to the city board, and any extra appropriation would be included in the next budget process.
Earlier procurement coverage noted that Skanska was chosen to carry out the renovation after a Market Court appeal. The decision on any additional funding will be considered alongside the city's broader 2027 building plans the housing committee's 2027 building plan.
