Tampere commits €2.97 million to support artists, venues and cultural minorities
Tampere city board approved €2,972,010 in grants to support professional arts organisations, hobby groups, venues and cultural minority organisations, including funding tied to the Tullikamari renovation.
At a committee meeting, Tampere approved nearly €3 million in grants for local arts communities, hobby organisations and cultural minority groups. The city board agreed on a total allocation of €2,972,010, which also includes venue support.
General grants for professional and locally significant culture and arts communities went to 49 organisations, totaling €444,000, while venue grants were awarded to nine groups worth €489,346. DesignOnTampere received a separate €9,600 grant to cover extra costs from the Tullikamari renovation.
Grants for hobby-based cultural activity supported 42 non-profit groups with €121,500, plus one venue grant of €4,806. The Finnish Association for Children’s Culture was given free use of the Laikku cultural house for 2026 (valued at €9,276), and the Tampere International Activity Centre support association received Laikku use valued at €18,062.
Seventeen cultural minority organisations shared €23,500. The budget also set aside €30,000 for encouragement grants for professional artists this year. Fifteen recipients received awards of €1,500–€2,500 across visual art, photography, film, architectural art/design and children’s culture.
Selection was based on alignment with the city’s cultural and strategic goals as well as scope, quality and impact; support for special groups and children’s culture was not judged by number of active participants.
