Tampere councillors to attend closed conduct workshop Monday amid strained debate culture

Tampere city councillors will attend a 45-minute closed conduct workshop before Monday’s council meeting, YLE reports. The closed, workshop-style session is meant for councillors to reflect on working methods and how they discuss sensitive issues. Most group chairs say a single evening is unlikely to fix entrenched behaviour. Johanna Loukaskorpi (Social Democrats) said she has low expectations, calling the allotted time too short to produce lasting change. Other chairs shared her skepticism, welcoming a review of agreed rules but warning that differing values and deliberate political provocation fuel much of the conflict. The session will be private and the media will not be admitted. It follows a planned spring discussion that was postponed because of renovations at Tampere City Hall.
