Tampere Expands City Bike Program to Nearby Municipalities

Tampere is tendering a regional city bike service with Nokia, Lempäälä, Pirkkala and Vesilahti preliminarily on board, YLE reports.

YLE notes that Tampere currently holds a contract for city bike services for this year and next, comprising 700 bicycles across 115 stations, and that the cycling season runs from 15 April to the end of October. The procurement process is planned to cover spring 2028 onward, with final participating municipalities confirmed in March–April after decisions on participation and approval of a cooperation agreement.

The cooperation agreement will define each municipality’s role, collaboration specifics, and cost sharing, while Tampere would prepare the tender under a framework arrangement and municipalities would carry out purchases separately. The aim is a single city bike service across all involved municipalities, accessible with one license and a uniform usage concept across the region, according to YLE.
