Tampere Food Bank is collecting hygiene products at the Moro car boot sale on Keskustori on Sunday 6 September. Collections take place at the Old Church from 9:00 to 15:00, and organisers ask for unopened, usable items such as shower gel, shampoo, deodorant, toothpaste and brushes, laundry detergent and menstrual products. Aamulehti reports.
Tanja Lähteenmäki, director of the Food Bank, says hygiene items are in constant short supply and many clients cannot afford them.
The market will host Ekokumppanit’s clothing collection for the VaateSwap event at Tampere Hall on 17 October. Donations are accepted at the Puutarhakatu edge of the square from 9:00 to 13:00; each bag, one per donor, earns a swap voucher, up to ten. There will also be a Renyy recycling stop, recycling coaches, a chance to sit in a garbage truck driver's seat and the traditional prize wheel.
The Food Bank distributes about 15,000 aid bags in Tampere every month. Demand has risen sharply in recent years, with a record rise in demand for food aid earlier this year which has increased pressure on the Food Bank.
