Tampere Hoists SDG Flags at Raatihuone on 25 September

The flag-raising follows the Tampere For All programme to expand low‑threshold community spaces launched earlier this year and comes after a UN forum hosted in the city that focused on cities and technology earlier this month.

The event is a reminder of the UN’s 2030 Agenda, which aims to end extreme poverty and promote environmentally sustainable well-being. The city says it has advanced sustainable development since the 1990s and embedded the goals in the Tampere City Strategy 2035 – City of Action, updated in November 2025. Nina Mustikkamäki, the city strategy manager, says sustainability is not a separate project but part of everyday work, with development programmes such as Hiedanranta and Tampere For All supporting inclusion and well-being.

Tampere is working with residents, organisations, businesses and other cities through initiatives including the Kuntaliitto-led Sustainable Leadership in Cities of the Future network and the Urban Prosumers project coordinated by the University of Tampere. Project manager Elina Pulliainen will speak at the Metso Main Library at 6:00 pm on 24 September about participatory climate action. Earlier there will be a nonstop brainstorming session in the library lobby that is open to anyone with ideas for a community grant application. Participants also include Tammerkosken lukio, the city subsidiary Tammenlehväkeskus, Tampere University and Tampere University of Applied Sciences (TAMK).
