Tampere Raises SDG Flags Across City to Mark UN Goals Anniversary
Tampere is flying SDG flags across the city today to mark the UN Sustainable Development Goals anniversary and highlight the city’s long-running sustainability work.
The flag day aims to remind residents that promoting sustainability shapes everyday services and the city’s strategic work. Tampere has advanced sustainability since the 1990s, and the UN goals are included in the city’s renewed 2025 City of Doing strategy.
"Sustainability work is not a separate project for us, but part of everything we do. It shows in our projects and is part of our everyday work," said strategy manager Nina Mustikkamäki in a press release.
The city highlights cooperation with other major cities, companies and organizations, and cites the Urban Prosumers project as an example of participatory climate action. This is the fourth year Tampere has joined SDG flag day. City subsidiaries and educational institutions, including Tammerkosken lukio and Tampere University, are participating.
The flag raising follows the city's announcement to hoist SDG flags at Raatihuone on 25 September, Tamperelainen reports.
