Tampere plans larger sports hall beside historic Niemen kartano estate
Tampere's zoning proposal would allow a larger sports hall beside the historic Niemen kartano estate in Niemenranta, increasing permitted hall size from 1,600 to 2,400 m²; the community committee will consider putting the plan on public display on Tuesday.
The city's zoning proposal would raise the allowable hall size from 1,600 to 2,400 square metres and place the new sports hall beside the Niemen kartano estate in Niemenranta. Tampere's community committee will consider placing the proposal on public display at its Tuesday meeting. The plan allows conversion of part of the old mill into about 400 square metres of support space for the sports facility. The final size could be smaller depending on the developer's design work.
Planners say the project must fit into a regionally valuable built cultural environment and preserve the cultural-historical values of Niemen kartano and its surrounding residences. The estate complex includes the main house, the traditional main dwelling, from 1861; a 19th-century guest building; a cellar from 1877; barn and stable buildings from 1917–1918; and the Niemi mill with its 1920s structure and a 1940s extension. The proposal includes tree-cover safeguards between Tuomas Antinpojan puisto and Sellupuisto, protection rules for the courtyard buildings, and recognition of the barn towers as local landscape landmarks.
