Tampere is updating the refurbishment needs assessment for the Market Hall, and a revised study is expected by late 2026.
Officials are refining technical solutions, revising cost estimates and planning how the hall would operate during renovation. Merchants will receive an autumn survey to map needs for temporary premises while work proceeds. The city will evaluate different delivery and ownership options as preparations continue.
The Market Hall now houses more than 30 cafes, restaurants and shops. Deputy mayor Jaakko Mustakallio said the preparatory work aims to preserve the hall’s role as a meeting place and a core part of the city’s identity. It should also keep the space viable for dozens of entrepreneurs for generations to come.
