The merchants' association proposes using the Molin lot at Keskustori as a temporary home while the 125-year-old Tampere Market Hall undergoes a major renovation.

Traders at Tampere Market Hall told Tamperelainen they need a nearby temporary site while the 125‑year‑old building awaits a major renovation. Valtteri Nygren, chair of the merchants' association, has proposed using the Molin lot at Keskustori, currently used for parking, as the relocation site.

City officials are updating a needs assessment for the hall's basic repairs and expect the revised study by late 2026 the city said earlier. A previous plan to renovate in 2025–27 stalled after the city lacked the more than €10 million estimated for the project. Nygren said actual construction may be years away, noting the hall has had only maintenance work for decades since its last full overhaul.

Nygren argues any temporary facility must sit close to the hall to preserve customer flows and buying habits and stresses keeping the market atmosphere rather than fragmenting services across multiple locations. He also wants the rebuilt hall to retain its traditional mix of complementary vendors instead of simply filling spaces to boost occupancy. The city will soon ask merchants about their specific needs for relocation space.
