The Lentävänniemi K‑market will close at the end of March 2027 after the building is scheduled for demolition to make way for new residential and commercial construction, the owner says.

"There is no clearer information about the future yet," K‑market owner Ida‑Rebecka Lehmus wrote, according to Tamperelainen. The store will close at the end of March 2027 because the entire building is scheduled for demolition to make way for new construction.

The redevelopment follows two zoning changes that open the area to infill building near the planned tram terminal and its stop. Plans for Männistönkuja 2 and 4 call for a cluster of residential and commercial buildings, including one tower rising to 13 storeys, several eight‑storey blocks, about 15,000 square metres of residential floor area, roughly 1,000 square metres of retail space and a 1,200 square metre parking structure.

Planners estimate the immediate area could accommodate around 350 residents. A separate housing project on Lielahdenkatu and Pikkusaarenkuja would add space for another roughly 350 people, with new buildings there ranging from seven to nine storeys. Lehmus said she does not yet know whether a temporary container shop will replace the K‑market or when a new store might reopen.
