Tampere may join Akkuteollisuus ry for a €500 membership to strengthen ties between vocational education, companies and research as battery production and electrification expand in Finland.

Tampere may join Akkuteollisuus ry, and the city board will decide on the proposal at Monday's meeting, Tamperelainen reports.

The proposed €500 fee would give the city direct links to the fast-growing battery industry. City officials say membership would strengthen cooperation between vocational education, companies and research as battery production and electrification expand in Finland.

It highlights Pirkanmaa's potential for battery assembly and mobile machinery solutions, and would give vocational college Tredu a direct channel to industry networks and insights on future skills needs.

The aim is to boost expertise across a range of fields. These include electrical and automation work; machine and production engineering; process and laboratory work; logistics; and building and energy technology. Membership would also support student work placements and employability. The €500 fee would be charged to the education services administration cost centre.

The proposal follows growing battery activity in the region, including the Nordic Battery Summit held in Tampere and Tredu's recent plans to prioritise employer cooperation and study pathways.
