Tredu prioritises employer ties, study pathways and TAKK cooperation in 2027 budget outlook

Tampereen seudun ammattiopisto Tredu presented its key assumptions for the 2027 budget and an outlook on vocational education to partner municipalities at a meeting on 14 September 2026. The presentation follows Tampere's municipal committee backing a 2027 budget prioritising youth education and skills in early September, and Tredu's earlier plan to move its machine and production engineering workshops to TAKK’s Nirva campus in 2028 announced in April.

At the meeting, director Kirsi Viskari and finance manager Riina-Eveliina Eskelinen outlined the institution’s strategic priorities: closer cooperation with working life, stronger preparation for further study and a healthy learning community. Viskari said a strategy adopted at the start of 2026 guides those priorities, and the school has been chosen to participate in the Ministry of Education and Culture’s operational steering trial aimed at improving education quality and responsiveness to changing skill needs.

In 2027, cooperation with contracting municipalities will take shape through joint partnership groups, transition phase collaboration and student-led detached house construction projects across several municipalities. The school is also developing a machine and production engineering learning environment with Tampere Adult Education Centre TAKK.

Eskelinen explained that recent changes to the vocational funding model move funding more strongly toward study completions, employment outcomes and transitions to further study, with results from the previous two years now affecting allocations. "Maintaining funding requires consistently strong performance," she said. The institution described its 2027 budget outlook as positive. It warned that overall public sector tightening increases uncertainty for the entire education sector.

Municipal representatives at the meeting stressed that high-quality learning environments and strong vocational education support both youth engagement and local labour needs. On-site teaching and flexible partial qualifications were singled out as effective ways to meet rapidly changing employer demands, particularly in adult education. "Collaboration is Pirkanmaa's superpower, something we should genuinely be proud of," Viskari said, as the school continues planning its annual programme through the autumn to secure regional skills and quality provision.
