Tampere to Remove 84 On‑Street Parking Machines from November, Install Info Pillars
Tampere will remove most on-street parking payment machines from November. The network will shrink from 152 to 68 by early 2028, with many units replaced by information pillars listing mobile payment options.
Removals will begin in November, shrinking the network from 152 machines today to 68 by early 2028. Finnpark will lead the work with Tampereen Energia and Tampereen Vera, and many former machines will be replaced by information pillars listing available mobile payment operators.
The city plans to keep a machine within walking distance of most areas, though some users may face longer walks. One payment machine will remain in Hervanta.
Coin-payment capable machines will be pared back. Eleven will remain across the city centre, as planners aim to retire the most worn and least used units.
Mobile payments dominate. They now account for 87 percent of all parking events; machines are used for just 13 percent, and coin payments make up only 8.8 percent of transactions handled at machines.
The city says the removals form part of its wider parking policy and follow longer-term plans to steer long-term parking into garages and manage curbside parking; see the city's long-term parking strategy. The change also follows recent increases to city-centre on-street parking prices announced price rises.
