Work on Tampere University Hospital's M-Building to Start in Autumn 2026
Construction of the new M-building for Tampere University Hospital will begin in autumn 2026, with the full complex due in 2032; the project is expected to create about 14,000 person‑years of employment.
SRV and the Pirkanmaa wellbeing services county have agreed to build a new M-building for Tampere University Hospital, with work on the first blocks due to start in autumn 2026 and the full complex scheduled for 2032, Tamperelainen reports.
The M-building will house acute hospital functions such as the Acuta emergency unit, intensive care, operating theatres, imaging units, maternity wards and the main control centre. It will also accommodate units for internal medicine, pulmonology, gynecology, gastroenterology and gastro-surgery, urology and general surgery.
Preparatory area works are concluding. Project director Veli-Pekka Tanhuanpää said the renewal programme is now moving into implementation, and he estimated the project would create about 14,000 person‑years of employment for Pirkanmaa and across Finland.
This follows the start of an R‑building extension to keep MRI services running and the topping-out of the child and adolescent psychiatry building at the hospital campus.
