Man Stabbed in Koskipuisto Park in Central Tampere, Suspect Detained Hours Later
A man was stabbed late Saturday in Koskipuisto in central Tampere. A suspect was detained hours later and the attack is being treated as attempted murder.
A man remains hospitalized after being stabbed late Saturday in Koskipuisto park in downtown Tampere. He is an adult and was still receiving hospital care on Sunday morning, though police have not released the severity of his injuries.
Central Finland police investigating chief Heikki Järnström said officers received the emergency call at around 11 pm, when the park was busy. A suspect, also an adult man, was detained a few hours later. The attack is being treated as attempted murder, and no other suspects have been identified.
Investigators are only just beginning their work, reviewing downtown CCTV and preparing to interview witnesses. Järnström said the night was unusually busy for police; officers took numerous intoxicated people into custody and responded to several calls linked to domestic violence.
The incident was reported by local broadcaster YLE, and local paper Aamulehti was the first to cover the stabbing. The attack follows a string of late-night stabbings in the Tampere area, including the Hervanta stabbing in May and a March stabbing near the central square.
