The 95-year-old Viinikka kiosk in Tampere has reopened as a year-round grill, with an official opening on 18 April and test openings winning praise for the burgers.

Tamperelainen reports that entrepreneurs Reima Halkosaari and Niko Sydänheimo have reopened the 95-year-old Viinikka thread-spool kiosk in Tampere as a grill. It officially opened on Saturday 18 April at 13:00, and the new operators said test openings drew praise for the burgers.

The small wooden kiosk, designed by architect Bertel Strömmer and completed in 1931, had fallen into disrepair before being bought in early 2024 by Jarno Kauppinen from Lempäälä for €7,500 and extensively renovated. Halkosaari, who has experience in gluten-free baking and large-event vending, will run a classic grill menu that includes six to eight burgers, sausage-and-fries, meat pies, hot dogs, steamed sausage and other local Tampere specialties. Cold drinks, sweets and summer ice cream are also available. The kiosk will operate year-round: Sun–Thu 10:00–21:00 and Fri–Sat until 03:00.
