VR launches late-night InterCity, bringing Tampere arrival at 00:59

From 13 December VR will run a new InterCity service from Helsinki that reaches Tampere at 00:59, giving late-night travellers a direct option after midnight, Tamperelainen reports. The train departs Thursdays through Sundays at 23:14, later than the previous last fast service which left at 22:00. It's a later option than before.

VR says the schedule is aimed at passengers arriving on late flights to Helsinki–Vantaa and people attending evening events in the capital, and it enables a connection from the airport via the 23:12 Tikkurila departure. The operator will also expand the 21:04 InterCity from Helsinki to run on Fridays and Sundays in addition to Thursdays and Saturdays, and from 13 December there will be 12 extra weekly services between Tampere and Turku.

The city of Tampere and Business Tampere said the addition is part of a wider accessibility programme to boost the city's appeal and international connections. It complements Finnair’s return of twice‑daily Tampere–Helsinki flights earlier this month.
