42-year-old Charged with Attempted Murder After Person Pushed onto Hämeenkatu Tram Tracks

A 42-year-old woman has been charged with attempted murder over an incident on Hämeenkatu in June. The case will be heard at Pirkanmaa District Court in early September, according to Aamulehti.

Police received a call on the evening of Friday 12 June after someone was reported on the tram tracks. At first officers believed a tram had struck the person. Investigators later found the tram had braked in time, and witnesses said the individual had been pushed onto the rails.

The suspect was arrested quickly and remanded on probable cause before prosecutors filed charges. Crime Inspector Jani Ortamala said the incident could have had far more serious consequences, although the victim did not suffer serious injuries.

The incident is the latest in a string of violent episodes in the Tampere area, following an Armonkallio bladed-weapon attack and a stabbing near Central Square earlier this year.
