59 Rental Apartments to Rise on Former Landfill in Kaleva

Work is under way on a 59-unit rental block at Takojankatu 20 in Kaleva. The building will cover about 3,000 square metres and house a mix of apartment sizes, one commercial space and resident common facilities. The site sits on a former landfill in the Kalevanrinne neighbourhood, according to Aamulehti. Marvea was chosen as the builder after a competition that weighed price alongside apartment functionality, energy efficiency, environmental fit, durability and ease of maintenance. Tampereen Vuokra-asunnot currently manages roughly 4,000 rental homes in Tampere and aims to add about 100 new units a year. The Kaleva project follows other recent rental developments in the city, including Avain Asunnot's 66-unit Hiedanranta project and a 58-unit rental tower in Santalahti. Completion is scheduled for December 2027.
