The new Ahvenisjärvi school in Hervanta opened in August 2026. It has space for about 1,100 pupils, covering pre-primary groups and grades 1–9.

The building includes a large sports hall and a smaller multipurpose hall. Both serve basic education and early childhood education during the day, and local residents and other groups can use them outside school hours. During construction, pupils were relocated to temporary premises at Tampere University’s Hervanta campus Konetalo.

Elsewhere in Tampere, several school and daycare projects are underway. A new school and daycare will replace Kanjonin school; while that project proceeds, pupils will use Konetalo and the new Ahvenisjärvi school as temporary space, and the old Kanjonin daycare will remain in use until its replacement is ready. The private voucher daycare Sunshine Hervantajärvi opened in August 2026.

Turtola daycare moved to temporary premises on Sairaalankatu in August 2025. Its new 80-place building is due in August 2027, after the old facility is demolished. Major renovations of Aleksanteri school’s three buildings are expected to finish in August 2027. Temporary facilities at Eteläpuisto daycare and at Pyynikintie 2 will serve roughly 550 pre-primary and grades 1–6 pupils.

The historic Wivi Lönn school buildings (1875, 1886, 1904) are receiving technical and interior upgrades and improved accessibility. Harju school’s renovation of three buildings began in summer 2025 and will modernize space for about 285 pupils, with work carried out under building protection requirements. The City of Tampere provided the details.
