VTS-kodit says construction of a community house in the Käräjätörmä area of Tohloppi will begin in November, part of a broader neighbourhood renewal that includes renovations, demolitions and new housing. The project also involves refurbishing several rental blocks and erecting new buildings on cleared plots to diversify the local housing mix and raise the area’s population. Plans call for owner-occupied homes alongside rental units to broaden housing options. The housing provider is seeking building partners for later phases and has already renovated three blocks at Käräjätörmä 3, and completed a new 26-apartment building with a ball-game friendly yard. The community house will be developed in partnership with the City of Tampere and Kotipirtti ry, with activities coordinated through the Pirkanmaa wellbeing area and the Tesoma wellbeing alliance. Due for completion in autumn 2027, the building will include space for a café and a gym. It is intended to host events ranging from cultural programmes to fitness and health advice. Jaakko Lehtinen, project manager at VTS-kodit, said, "The community house will become a shared meeting point for the whole Käräjätörmä. We want to create a space where people of different ages can meet and participate in activities together." He added that a steering committee will be set up to develop the programme for the house. Short-term work includes demolishing the old blocks at Käräjätörmä 8 and constructing replacement housing, with full renewal scheduled to finish in the early 2030s. VTS-kodit, the city’s largest rental housing provider with more than 8,000 rental homes housing around 15,000 Tampere residents, said the aim is to preserve the area’s calm, safe and communal character while adding new shared yards and activity spaces.
