Pyynikin kirkkopuisto's south playground reopens with forest characters, fitness device and extra bike parking
The south playground in Pyynikin kirkkopuisto has reopened after a spring 2026 renovation that added new play structures, a circular bench, outdoor fitness equipment and extra bicycle parking.
According to the City of Tampere, the south playground in Pyynikin kirkkopuisto reopened this week after a renovation that began in spring 2026. Some well-conditioned equipment was kept, and new structures were added for different age groups.
A circular bench around a tree and a table-and-bench lounging area now greet families at the south end of the park, alongside forest-themed wooden play characters. The refurbishment included an outdoor fitness device and increased bicycle parking.
The existing fence remains but one southern access gate was removed to create a single continuous play zone. Final lighting work is still under way.
Near Aleksanterin kirkko and the Aleksanterin koulutalo, the renewed playground preserves the park-like character and large trees while improving opportunities for play, relaxation and socialising for visitors of all ages. The work follows the Korpinpuisto nature playground in Järvensivu and other recent city playground projects.
