Kaartotie–Naistenmatkantie junction in Partola to close for two months for tram works
The Kaartotie–Naistenmatkantie junction in Partola will be closed to motor traffic from 1 June until late July for tramway construction, the Tampereen Ratikan Pirkkala–Linnainmaa alliance said.
The Kaartotie–Naistenmatkantie junction in Partola, Pirkkala, will be closed to motor traffic from 1 June until late July to allow tramway work to be completed, the Tampereen Ratikan Pirkkala–Linnainmaa alliance said.
During the closure, vehicle access for properties in the Pakkalankulma area will be via Pakkalantie, and traffic to Kaartotie will be redirected along Elinantie and Mustimäentie. The full closure will allow remaining excavation and surface work on the road and track to be finished in one sequence, avoiding multiple changes to traffic arrangements.
"By closing the junction completely for two months, we can finish the work in the area at once," said Teemu Niemi, Partola project manager for the Tampereen Ratikan Pirkkala–Linnainmaa alliance. "That means we won't have to change traffic arrangements several times at the crossing, so the setup stays consistent and clearer for those moving around the site, and the track construction can be completed faster."
Pedestrian and cycling connections through the junction will remain open, but the route will be adjusted from 27 May: it will run on the west side of the crossing and then along the south side of Naistenmatkantie toward Härmälä. The route toward Pirkkala centre will continue south of the work area, and the locations of crossings may change as the project advances.
By the end of 2026, roughly two thirds of the Pirkkala–Linnainmaa tramway will be complete, with final traffic arrangements introduced during 2027. Tram service between the Kauppi campus and Ruotula stops and the Sorin aukio and Partola stops is scheduled to begin in August 2028.
