Lääkärinkallionkatu Junction Reopens Thursday as Kauppi Tram Work Shifts East

The junction of Lääkärinkallionkatu and Arvo Ylpön katu will reopen to vehicle traffic on Thursday, April 30, the Tampereen Ratikan Pirkkala–Linnainmaa alliance said.

Crews are building tram track foundations and laying rails across the intersection of Arvo Ylpön katu, Lääkärintie and Lääkärinkatu through April to June. Work is concentrated on the western side near Lääkärintie for now; in May it will move to the eastern side. Traffic lanes will be shifted sideways as needed and are scheduled to return to the road centre in June.

Between Teiskontie and Lääkärintie the project is widening the pedestrian and cycle path. Lighting is being installed and a district heating line finished. Vehicle access from Arvo Ylpön katu to Lääkärinkallionkatu will use a new connection north of the tram substation from April 30; pedestrians and cyclists should continue to use the existing Lääkärinkatu route. The site will be signed to guide road users.

A retaining wall is being built north of the new junction, and the bus stop Tays Arvo (5102) is being moved about 15 metres north. It has been out of service since late March; the hospital-side stop Tays Arvo (5103) temporarily replaces it until the new platform is finished this summer. Most municipal engineering work in the Kaupinlaakso block is due to be completed over the summer. The contractor will continue road and track structure work, lay paving and asphalt, and build the Ruotula tram stop. Traffic lights at the Arvo Ylpön and Lääkärintie intersection are set to be operational this autumn. The Pirkkala–Linnainmaa line is expected to be about two-thirds complete by the end of 2026. Final traffic arrangements will follow in 2027, and tram service between Kaupin campus/Ruotula and Sorin aukio/Partola is planned to begin in August 2028.
