New traffic lights at Naistenmatkantie intersections in Partola will be switched on 12 October, with signals flashing yellow from 8 October, as tram and street works along the corridor enter their final phase this autumn.

Tampere Tram's Pirkkala–Linnainmaa alliance announced that new traffic lights will be activated at the Naistenmatkantie intersections with Kaartotie and Isomäentie in Partola, and at the Lidl Pirkkala junction on 12 October. The signals will begin flashing yellow from 8 October.

The new lights will replace a temporary traffic circle at the Lidl junction, and all turn lanes will be brought into permanent use. Pedestrian and cycling routes through the intersections are already on their final alignments. The changes aim to improve safety and traffic flow as the street works wrap up.

"Construction of Naistenmatkantie is in its final stretch, and the street as a whole will be completed during the autumn. We aim to switch traffic lights on at the Naistenmatkantie–Nuolialantie and Nuolialantie–Pereentie intersections around the turn of October and November. After that, Naistenmatkantie traffic will run according to the final arrangements," said Partola block project manager Teemu Niemi.

Much of the tramway and surrounding street construction across Partola is already advanced, with many rail and street sections expected to be ready by the end of this year. Work on Nuolialantie and the new tram street Damaskitie has most rails in place, although surface layers and walking and cycling paths will be finished during the autumn.

Work will next focus on tram construction around Kenkätie and the Partola tram stop, with track and street work continuing into late autumn and next year. Overhead wires are due to be installed along the route in 2026. Final traffic arrangements along the entire tram corridor are scheduled to come into force in 2027. Passenger service between key stops is slated to begin in August 2028.

This change follows earlier signal activations and temporary roundabout removals as the Pirkkala–Linnainmaa tram project advances. Similar traffic-light switches took place in Partola and Hatanpää in September when signals replaced temporary roundabouts. The Kaartotie–Naistenmatkantie junction was closed for construction earlier this summer during the June–July works, and a new north-side pedestrian and cycle path on Naistenmatkantie opened on 23 September to improve safe crossings.
