Leaning streetlights on Karvolanraitti in Hyhky straightened after reader alert
Crews straightened several leaning streetlights along Karvolanraitti in Hyhky and poured new foundations after a local resident reported multiple tilted poles.
Crews straightened several leaning streetlights along Karvolanraitti in Hyhky last Wednesday and poured new foundations to meet current regulations. The work was reported by Aamulehti.
A local reader alerted the newspaper after spotting many poles tipping backwards along the walkway. None were in immediate danger of falling on pedestrians, but residents worried about damaged underground cable insulation and pets marking the bases.
Tomi Keskinen, service manager for outdoor lighting maintenance at Tampereen Vera Oy, said the poles were likely installed to the standards of their time. Soft, wet soil along the route had helped cause the tilt, he said.
Keskinen said intact cable sheaths and fuse protection reduce the risk of electric shock, and urged residents to submit faults to the city's outdoor lighting fault-reporting service. In this case no official report had been filed; crews noticed the problem while working nearby and fixed it.
