The Liisankallio civil shelter in Tampere will open to the public for a preparedness day on 24 October from 10:00 to 14:00, the City of Tampere says. The event focuses on household preparedness based on the 72‑hour principle and includes information stands and demonstrations. It follows the city's March survey showing only about half of residents have the recommended 72‑hour emergency supplies, highlighting the need for practical advice.
The open day is aimed at local residents, families, housing company representatives and anyone interested in civil defence and personal preparedness. The venue is not fully accessible. Tampereen Seudun Sotilaskotiyhdistys will host a sales van outside, and Tampereen Seudun Reserviläisnaiset ry is the main cooperating partner. Jouni Perttula, the city's risk and safety director, said, "Good preparedness is part of everyday safety," and urged people to assemble basic home supplies and learn how to act in different disruptions.
Organisers and partner groups will show shelter equipment such as beds and toilets, and the Finnish Red Cross will give first-aid demonstrations. Hämeen pelastusliitto will brief housing companies on responsibilities and airtightness tests, Tampere Water will explain outage text alerts and water storage such as lidded buckets, and community groups will demonstrate cooking options with and without electricity. The city reminds households to prepare to manage independently for at least three days with water, easy-to-prepare food, essential medicines and plans for outages of power, water, payments or communications.
