Permanent traffic lights replace temporary roundabout on Naistenmatkantie in Partola
Permanent traffic lights are being switched on along Naistenmatkantie in Partola, replacing a temporary construction roundabout as tram and street works near completion.
A temporary construction roundabout in Partola is being taken out of service as permanent traffic lights are switched on along Naistenmatkantie, YLE reports. The new signals at the Kaartotie–Isomäentie junction and the Naistenmatkantie–Lidl Pirkkala access will be activated this autumn. They will replace the temporary roundabout and move traffic onto the road’s final layout.
The Naistenmatkantie project is nearing completion, with most street and tramway works in Partola expected to finish by the end of the year. Traffic lights at the Naistenmatkantie–Nuolialantie and Nuolialantie–Pereentie intersections are slated for late October or November. After that, Naistenmatkantie will operate under its permanent arrangement.
Rails on Nuolialantie and the new tram street Damaskitie are largely in place. Surface finishes and pedestrian routes will be completed during the autumn. Work will then shift to Kenkätie and the Partola tram stop area, where the future Partolanaukio plaza is being built. Final traffic arrangements along the entire tram line are due next year, and passenger service between Kauppi campus and Ruotula and between Sori Square and Partola is scheduled to begin in August 2028.
