Orivesi will transfer its finance staff to neighbouring Pirkkala from 1 January 2027, with four employees moving and Pirkkala allocating five person‑years to run the service.

Orivesi will transfer its finance staff to neighbouring Pirkkala from 1 January 2027, Tamperelainen reports. The plan follows earlier cooperation talks, which began on 12 October, and Orivesi's decision to name Pirkkala its preferred partner on 21 October when Orivesi ended negotiations on 21 October.

On 9 November the two municipalities will discuss a cooperation agreement under which Pirkkala would provide finance support services for Orivesi. These include bookkeeping, preparing financial statements, tax and official reporting, invoicing and payment processing. Orivesi’s finance and administration director Marjatta Lilja said in a press release that shared systems and processes should make the transition smooth, and Pirkkala’s finance director Tommi Ruokonen said the aim is to build a reliable joint unit that draws on both municipalities’ expertise.

Four Orivesi employees would transfer to Pirkkala as existing employees. Pirkkala is allocating five person‑years to the service and will fill one post itself. The finance unit would be based in Pirkkala. Transferred staff would be offered workspace in Orivesi for at least two years.

Orivesi will abolish its current accounting manager post and create a finance specialist role to coordinate the cooperation, handle budget and financial statement tasks, work with auditors, manage internal control, and steer the city’s finances. Officials estimate the new arrangement would initially increase Orivesi’s costs by about one finance specialist's annual salary. The city board will decide on filling the finance specialist post if the city council approves the cooperation agreement.
