Tampere City Bikes Top One Million Journeys as August Sets Record
Tampere’s city bike system has passed one million journeys since launching in 2021; August was a record month with over 50,000 trips and the season has logged more than 240,000 rides.
According to the City of Tampere, a small sign was attached to the basket of the bike used for the millionth trip to mark the milestone. Usage has grown steadily since the system launched in 2021, and this season is particularly strong: August delivered a record month with more than 50,000 journeys, and the current season has already logged over 240,000 rides. Public transport director Mika Periviita said the bikes have become an important part of sustainable mobility in Tampere, complementing public transport and offering a convenient option for short commutes and leisure trips. The Sale bikes currently in service will remain available for the 2027 season while the city continues to expand stations and improve usability. The milestone follows the addition of about 60 new stations this spring, bringing the network to more than 170 stops as the city expanded its bike network in April.
