Tampere City Transport Advances with Superbuss Plans on Lines 7 and 8

Tampere City Transport Ltd announced a new Superbus service on lines 7 and 8 in Tampere, with operations slated to begin on 7 August 2028. The service will blend tram-like reliability with bus flexibility, serving line 7 from Käräjätörmä through Tesoma, Kalkku, the city center, Hakametsä and Linnainmaa, and line 8 from Haukiluoma via Tesoma, the city center, Kaukajärvi, Annala, and Kaipanen. A procurement process will begin in autumn 2026. Line 7 will be tendered in an open competitive process; line 8 will be acquired through a subsidiary procurement by Tampere City Transport Ltd. The overall transport services for both lines will be governed by procurement contracts in 2026, establishing a timeline for rollout and operation. The arrangement includes a preliminary agreement (esisopimus), a buyer’s commitment to procuring Superbus services, which confirms the objective to sign a procurement contract for Line 8 with Tampere City Transport Ltd within 2026. The plan notes that Line 4, running West Hervanta – City Center – Tesoma – Hiedanranta, will be operated by Tampere City Transport Ltd, with a goal to convert Line 4 to a Superbus service in the 2030s. The plan emphasizes coordination with existing tram routes and aims to deliver a higher-capacity option for residents while preserving flexibility for changes in demand. The initiative aligns with Tampere’s ongoing efforts to strengthen public transportation infrastructure and city-center connectivity.
