Tampere Eyes Double-Decker Buses on Line 10

Two-storey buses could relieve seating shortages on Tampere's Line 10 during rush hours, with the upper deck offering views of Pyynikinrinne's ancient pine and Viinikka and Nekala's built heritage, Aamulehti reports.

Aamulehti notes that the idea grew after a visit to London, suggesting Tampere could follow the British capital's example by adopting double-deckers. The paper adds that Line 10, running from Tahmela through Central Square to Kaukajärvi, is reportedly crowded despite morning and afternoon headways of ten minutes, and that a larger vehicle would help, though articulated or other long buses could struggle on Nekala and the narrow streets of Pispala.

The concept would be an attraction in its own right, drawing visitors to Tampere, which the article says could become the Nordic region's largest inland city. On summer days, end stops would be a short walk from Riihiniemen Beach at Kaukajärvi or Tahmela Beach on Pyhäjärvi, while Tampere’s historic stance as a Turku analogue is fading as the city aims higher.
