Tampere Gallery Week opens with 'Holy Trash' paintings made from recycled cardboard
Tampere Gallery Week runs October 17–25 with exhibitions, artist talks and events across the city, including Petri Ala‑Maunus’s 'Holy Trash Recycled' cardboard paintings at Showroom Klingendahl.
Tampere Gallery Week runs Saturday, October 17 through Sunday, October 25, with exhibitions, artist talks and events across the city. The programme continues a local interest in works made from salvaged everyday materials, following Laikku’s recent salvaged‑material exhibitions, Aamulehti reports.
Highlights include Petri Ala‑Maunus’s Let There Be Light at Showroom Klingendahl (Papinkatu 21). At an artist meeting on Saturday, October 17 from 13:00–15:00 he will discuss the Holy Trash Recycled series, paintings created on discarded cardboard the artist has collected from city streets and even St. Peter’s Square. The Showroom presentation continues until 29 November. Ala‑Maunus’s recent 2026 works probe themes of the sacred and darkness, and the Tampere exhibition also shows album art he designed for the French death metal band Epitaphe.
Other programme picks include the artist pair Inka Hannula and Teemu Raudaskoski at Pieni Taidegalleria. They will stage collaborative paintings and lead a movement‑improvisation workshop on 18 October (14:00–14:45), with opening festivities at 15:00. Their Myötätuuli exhibition runs 20 October–20 November. Comic artist and musician Ville Pirinen speaks about contemporary Finnish comics and his 12‑part Yhesti yhes paikas series at Taidekeskus Mältinranta on 22 October (16:30–17:30). “An equally important part of the series is commenting on the stories and rambling about this and that,” Pirinen says, and for the gallery week that rambling will briefly move into Mältinranta’s building.
Smaller events round out the week. Runopolku opens in the Tahmela villa courtyard (Uramonkatu 9) on 18 October. An art pub quiz runs 20 October at 19:00 at Kievari kahdet kasvot, hosted by producer “Visa‑Kaisa” Iivonen, and TampereRaw performs at Galleria Saskia on 25 October at 16:00.
